It's not so much staying alive, it's staying human that's important. To the past, or to the future. To an age when thought is free.

A British Royal Marine was killed on operations in Afghanistan last weekend. His name was Adam Brown and he was a very close friend to one of my colleagues at work.
Whilst we hear of killings through newswires and bulletins, it is always difficult to feel an emotion on a personal level. British movement in Iraq and Afghanistan may not be in defense or honour of our country, but still our servicemen fight for a cause and put their own lives on the line to give other societies and cultures a better well-being.
There are human beings in this world who are willing to kill and murder those who try to suppress fascism, civil war and greed. Men and women are killed whilst trying to prevent other men, women and children from being killed. It is wrong on so many levels.
I went out with my colleague for a few beers on Friday night and he was as perky as the rest of us. Today (after a day of compassionate leave yesterday) he looked a solemn and broken man.
My thoughts and well-wishes go out to Adam Brown, his family and friends, and all British servicemen who are willing to put their very existence on the line to make a better world. Whether we are fighting over territory, religion, politics, oil, gas or terrorism - there are people willing to change and risk their entire life to give our children a better place to live.
